Tessenderlo, Belgium - ST AIA-PACK SHBG: A new Analyte in our Fertility Panel

Sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) is a glycoprotein synthesized in the liver and is released into the bloodstream.
It has a high affinity for steroid hormones especially testosterone and estradiol.

It is involved in transport of these sex steroids in plasma and to the targets cells.

SHBG plays a key role in regulating the bio- availability :
- Due to the high binding affinity of SHBG to steroids, limit the access of these steroids to their target cells.
- Increased SHBG levels may be associated with symptoms and indications of hypogonadism in men
- Decreased levels can result in androgenization in women
